Home Assistant

The RollingTail Home Assistant app runs Tailscale directly on your Home Assistant host. It provides secure remote access to Home Assistant and can optionally advertise local subnet routes, act as an exit node, or expose services on your tailnet.

Requirements​

  • Home Assistant OS or another supported Home Assistant installation with app support
  • A Tailscale account
  • An amd64 or aarch64 host

Tailscale is free for personal and hobby projects within Tailscale's current device limits. Review Tailscale's pricing and terms for other use cases.

Get started​

  1. Add the RollingTail Home Assistant repository to the Home Assistant Add-on Store.
  2. Install the Tailscale app.
  3. Start the app and open its Web UI.
  4. Authenticate the device with your Tailscale account.
  5. Check the app logs, then connect to Home Assistant over its tailnet address or MagicDNS name.

Most advanced capabilities are disabled by default. Enable only the features you need and verify their impact in the Tailscale admin console.
